Ice Energy Storage for Building Cooling.

How it Works: Storing energy by heating or cooling a storage medium for end use in a thermal application.
Benefits:
  • Thermal demands are a large part of building and commercial loads
Challenges:
  • System engineering challenges to enable low cost installations
Technology Variations:
Applications:
  • Ice, Chilled Water, Water Heater
  • Used for building and district heating and cooling, cold food storage
AC RTE Efficiency: Not applicable
Cycle Life: 10 - 15 years
Technology Readiness Level (TRL): 9 - Fully Mature
Installed Capacity: Cooling: ~14 GWh2
